Abstract:Fabrication of carbon fiber reinforced carbon-ceramic matrix composites by chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) and liquid impregnation of organic precursors is presented in this paper.Mechanical properties, ablation protection and oxidation resistance of C/C-SiC are characterized.Research results show that C/C-SiC composites with comparable fracture behavior and flexure strength to those of C/C materials, have better ablation protection and oxidation resistance. It is provided a technical approach to manufacture the carbon-ceramic composites which have comparable properties not only to that of C/C materials, but also to that of ceramics.
